One of my favorite orchids recently bloom.
Hi,
Thanks for sharing just beautiful gem.
I just wonder whether this one a natural hybrid between Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana and Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica or not.
I think there could be transitions of luedde and hiero in nature.
Very beautiful Derek...
looks like a perfectly fine Phal. lueddemanniana to me. where do you see the hybrid?
Thanks.
@Ron - I have seen a hybrid from Leyte and Mindanao last 2 years ago from one of the nurseries in Luzon. I bought 2 clamps, without my proper care both died out.
I have posted a green Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana last time.
Derek and Ron, it would seem that Phalaenopsis lueddemaniana and P. hieroglyphica are one and the same species. If you get a sampling of different specimens from different populations, and you pick from among them the plants which passes as P. lueddemaniana and P. hieroglyphica, the left-overs will form a series of gradations (a cline) between two extremes.
Sounds controversial, yes, and one that isn't going to gain much acceptance. But I currently have a set of photos that can vouch for this.
Beautiful phal orchid!!
Sounds like this would make an interesting article: Orchid Article Library
