    Default Alocasia in bloom

Ok, so I already put up a pic of this dude, but I guess it liked the attention, getting to be a model and all that, so it bloomed. I would have put an exclamation mark after that last sentence, but I have to say, I am not thrilled:

Who said it was supposed to be stinky?

That's an Alocasia right? I don't think they often are.

Did you have your heart set on stink?

    Like nothing at all.

The flowers are...well...little. I hope they're not insecure or have issues with their smallness. But gotta love those leaves!!!

PS - Stink envy is definitely a guy thing!

Never mind the flowers, I love those leaves, they are simply gorgeous.
BTW, Kevin, what happened to my 2 previous replies to the other posts?

    Just asking, curious.

Tanya, I looked into that after Kev PMd me about it--some kind of glitch that shouldn't have happened. Sorry..... Let me know if any bizarreness continues...

Julie, I don't think the plant has issues like that--it certainly seems quite proud of its equipment, as boldly as it stuck it out there....

OK, I passed by the florists shop yesterday and saw a baby Alocasia 'black velvet' on sale (about USdollar 1.50)and it followed me home. This one is growing in a 4" pot and still very small, biggest leaf about 4" long. I never grow this plant before (my mother grow the edible variety, "yam") I want some help on what to do to keep this thing happy. Will it rot if it keep under the rain? How about fertilizer, is it a heavy feeder?

    Tanya,

If I'm hearing Louis correctly, just let it stick it's little flower boldly where it wants and it will be happy.

They all grow pretty much the same, but give this one shade - well drained soil, high humidity, lots of food.

Julie, I don't like the little flower .

Ok, so this one is the opposite of what my mother is growing.
