    Default Clowesetum blooming.

A hybrid between catasetum and clowesia. Previously, the most blooms in one spike was around 6 but this time it has double that and another spike is waiting to open.

Ahhh finally found out what this little beauty is called! Saw this at an orchid fair recently and thought it was a catasetum, the vendor didnt know what it was called and just told me its a type of catasetum. But a lovely bloom, love the green yellow coloration and the spots..makes it look like a gamma ray imbued leopard! That frizzy lip is way cool too.

Neat. But I know I have trouble growing anything that needs a dry period. I'm too wimpy.

Stunning blooms, Mazlan!!! The fimbriated lip, the green colour and the spots indicate the influence of Cstm fimbriatum but what is the cross. Would love to know. Seems to be the blooming season for Catasetums and related genera. Mine are all spiking.

One of the ones I had on order from a guy who has the European concession for Jumbo ( pretty well all of the Catasetum hybrid orchids seem to originate there ). Unfortunately the man concerned - it was his first shipment of a great many plants - fell foul of bureaucracy - got a CITES Export permit from the producer, got his Peach importation procedure, got his phyto' - but didn't get his CITES import license. I exchanged maybe twenty or thirty e-mails with him, trying to help him find ways through the regulations, but bureacracy was adamant - even if it had discretion to grant a retrospective licence, it jolly well wasn't going to use it , so all those lovely orchids went on the compost heap ( wish I knew where that heap is ! ) I justy hope he will try again, but it will be another year I guess...
So pics like this just make me turn even greener (jealous) than before . I love these plants, want them, order them... but can't get them. ( Fortunately I had not paid in advance for my 12 plants- about US$350 - but I think the unfortunate dealer had paid for all of them - maybe 10 or 20 times as much. All lost. Government ? Bah !

I know this has petals and a lip, sepal etc. like any other orchid, but the proportions of each physical feature are so unique and wonderful on these flowers. From the spots to the frilled fringe and that is some dense frill on these, I like it all. I even spy what looks like red tone leaves in the background, which if part of this Clowesetum is just a attractive bonus. AL

I think Shane was trying to put one over us. The red leaves look like they belong to Cordyline fruticosa.

Yeah - the red leaves had me going at first, and then I realised it was some tropical "foliage" plant , meaning one we grow just because the leaves look nice , although I couldn't put a name to it. begonias , yes - beyond that, they are all dracaenas or something. Well we can't be knowledgable about everything , can we .
