I have enjoyed watching this silly vanda spike and develop buds for a couple weeks now. Thanks to Rich i've spent hours running back and forth with my camera. This plant has never bloomed. The original owner had given up and sent it to be sold at a flea market. I gave it a sunny breezy spot, a shot or two of honey and it gave me two spikes. I'm crossing my fingers the second spike will develop like this one has.
it's beautiful! So many flowers
Congrats, Connie. As with most blue vandas the colour will intensify as it matures. This is going to be one awesome vanda.
The lip is pretty interesting...thought i'd add these to show it better.
Wow, that purple labellum looks real cool. It will be interesting to see how much darker it will become. Even though I'm not much of a vanda fan, I do really like the spots. In the first and fourth photo, is that the other Blue Vanda that is in bloom? Those blooms look really small next to this one. What is the size of the larger blooms on this one ? Have Fun ! Rich
The blooms in the background (that's the one I got at the flea market), are only 2 inches across, the new flowers are 4 inches across. They look bigger, but I measured and had to correct myself. I thought they were more like 5 inches at first.
thats on e hell of a vanda you've got there....
You seem to of gotten well versed in the culture and care of Vandaceous orchids Connie. These blooms are very impressive. How do you use the honey?, if I may ask? AL
Absolutely gorgeous! You have quite the "orchid" thumb. I love the little spots on the blooms, like poppy or chia seeds. Truly amazing!
Beautiful!!!! ~
