Red face Male Agamid Lizard - Calotes versicolor

I posted pictures of the female Agamid lizard on 05-20-2011. This morning this young male sneaked in for a rendezvous with Mz Liz Agamid. The alpha male which used to hang around was away on one his philandering jaunts in the neighbourhood and this gave the opportunity for this young rake to sneak in. As I was around he was a bit wary and did not go into his full display and posturing in front of his paramour. In full display mode, he is an awesome sight - with more intense colour, dorsal spines straight up and mouth agape; and chest all puffed up and head held high. One of these days I'm going to catch Mr Alpha Male in full display.

Sorry I didn't indicate which was the female. The first picture of the comparatively 'drab' individual is the female on my Hknsa Koolau Sunset.
The other 3 are of the young Romeo in his Sunday best.

yes, as usual most animals and plants are where the male are more attractive in coloration. love the second pic and looking forward to see the pic of the alpha male.

Wonder if he had any luck in wooing the lady before the "big man" came home?

Great shots I like them, little dragons, but I am glad they are in your garden and not mine, because then my mom would not even go close to my orchids LOL. Soo misunderstood and shunned by most people these reptiles, I love them.

Used to be deadly scared of them as a child as the elders would always warn us that if bitten by one at noon death was inevitable. Why noon? Nobody ever explained. LOL
