Your most expensive orchid?

By size it would be 90 Euros ~ US $ 130 for a small Fredclarkeara After Dark which will take like 3 years for it to bloom, if I don't kill it. The next was 150 Euros ~ US $ 215 for a blooming size Paphiopedilum sanderianum, which has not yet bloomed. I have been drooling at some very beautiful Cattleya cultivars all in the price range of US $ 3500 to $ 10,000 for divisions. I guess I will have to rob a few banks to get those Cattleyas LOL !

I'm gagging to see them! Where on earth did you find those???? LOL

Like a member of the public will spend that much on a common NOID phal, they usually end up in the trash heap out the back of these establishments, but sure, one of us could easily bloom it a second time ae?

Yep and there are people who wouldn't bat an eye at spending $300,000 for a car or 10million for a house, so its all relative. For someone on disability retirement and a fixed income, much more than 10 bucks for any plant is a lot!

I would say around $38 (with shipping) on my Dendrobium tobaense.. other than that most of my orchids fit into the $25 range.. I would love to own one of the more expensive orchids but i fear i might kill it.

A paphio for £155. 37p. It was a common available paph ( cant remember which, deep purple) .It was 15 years old and had just over 20 new growths for flowering with a total of 30 ish of which some were spent bloomed. From auction. Would not have been able to grow whole , not enough room. I split it and kept 2 and sold the rest. It was cultured in natural sponge chunks. If that were me I would have struggled to grow it in pot culture. Next price down was a flat £80 for a matured Cycnoche barth.

One of the largest plants, the Lc Tiberta that had "walked over" into a second pot was $60. Usually an "expensive" plant for me is anything over $30. My big Tiberta got split and repotted as it's original potting was like sawdust and muck with rotten roots as the thickest solid matter. It's still in shock over being in good bark with good light and regular watering. lol It's totally freaking out and not doing a thing, except for two backbulb sections that are beginning to throw little pbulbs, but its slow going.

I'm with most of you......my most expensive were 35 US dollars. One, Coelogyne usitana and the other, Laelia Santa Barbara Sunset 'Showtime'. I can't say that I would ever spend tons of money on an orchid...other than the orchid that I owe my partner. Seems that Phrag. Sorcerer's Apprentice is hard to find and they are generally expensive when I do. I killed that one orchid that he loved dearly. His only one. At the time, I followed general info for any orchid and dried that thing out terribly.

One of the big online vendors is currently offering a 24 year old Phal. gigantea for $5,000 US, but, hey, the price includes shipping and it is in spike.
