I was watering my orchids outside on my porch today. Found this little baby Gray Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor) in my Maxillaria tenuifolia. Such a cute little frog. It looked like she just got rid of her tail recently. They are like chameleons changing from white/gray, green, and brown/black. Depending on what they sit on. I guess this girl was happy with me because she didnt feel like changing colors and hiding from me..lol...I used to have one as a pet 4 years ago. Its name was whitey. He was a little bit bigger then this one. It would sit on my finger every night and eat the bugs i gave him. I miss that little guy. Hopefully he'll STICK around for a little bit and make max his new home...hahah enjoy...i did!
Cute little pet!
I like it! So pretty!
Very cool little orchid guest. I actually found a little frog in the greenhouse on a paph the other day. First one I have seen inside my greenhouse.
cheers,
BD
How cute is that little guy! A mini frog in a maxi home... We have a couple big old toads outside our home - haven't gotten a picture of them yet, and they're not nearly as cute as this frog, but I like them all the same.
Thanks everyone..Its a treat to find one of these frogs. Seeing that they rarely come down from the trees and are camouflage. I agree with you Patty, frogs are very cool. Its seems to be the new trend, Bruce. Frogs and orchids unite! I checked on my max today. She is no where to be found. hmmmm maybe she'll stop by from time to time to keep those pesky bugs at bay.
I hope it keeps insects away as a fee for its excellent lodging !
Your visitor is very cute maybe still very small.
I have lots of grey tree froglets again this year. Must have had a big survival rate after hatching. I see several on a daily basis. I like when they winter over in the greenhouse.
lol Amey...your funny.. t'is such a small fee for a home and free food.. I must say it has good taste in orchids..hahaha...It was definitely a very small frog compared to the tenuifolia's bulbs. No bigger then the end my thumb, Zain.
@Jeff..thats awesome that there are so many around you. The last time i saw one of these was 4 years ago. Compared to other species that i see all the time. Granted i dont always look specifically for them..lol The Gray Tree Frog is my favorite around here.
