    Default Backyard Koi pond

Here is the pictures of the backyard Koi Pond. There are 14 fishy. To be honest with you all, I have nothing to do with this creation. My partner, Mike has spent so much time and effort to create this.

All I want is a greenhouse to cover the whole thing so that I can grow my VANDAs.... Who do you think it is a great idea?

    Enjoy!

The pond contruction started as we moved into the house in 02/2003. During the first spring time in 2004, Blue Heron cleaned up most of the Koi. Following year, as Mike forgot to turn off the water as he was adding some, the chlorine from the water KILLED all AGAIN!!! Blue Heron was still the major enemy.

We then ended up putting fish lines all over the pond so that Blue Heron cannot land onto the ground. I still think putting a greenhousoe over it is THE BEST SOLUTION.

I have enjoyed the pictures of Mike's Koi. Those are some beautiful, colorful fish. Portland is such a natural place for a Japanese garden. You can tell Mike that I vote YES for the greenhouse project. Do you think it would tempt him if you could design the frame in a Japanese Pagoda or Oriental style. Of course Victorian looking greenhouses with all the ginger bread can easily be found and would still not be out of place with a Japanese garden. Tempt him with some 'tender' Asian exotic plants that could not otherwise take the Northwest winters. Last I am just throwing things out there so you can pick and choose, I do believe that Koi are long lived if their not eaten. A greenhouse structure would throughly protect them and provide a milder climate to them also. Good luck Naoki! AL

Al, you continue to amaze and impress me with you deviousness. We need you in Washington! LOL Beautiful pond and koi. I love koi because you can train them to come to you and eat out of your hand--and yes they are very long lived and in Japan can become part of the family and the estate for generations.

Bill, thank you. When I was a child in Japan, I remember koi came to me as I clapped my hands. As of today, I tried many time, but no response yet. Hmmmm.

Remember I asked you to post more pictures of the pond sometime ago! Tell Mike it is beautiful. He did a great job!
Now ask him if he wants to come to Florida and help me get a new shadehouse up before the fall

Cathy, I will tell him. As a matter of fact, I asked him if it is time for him to re-visit his mom, who lives in Spring Hill. I know for sure he can get it done in a day. Seriously! He does not waste any time.
