Very similar to the Bulbo Valley Island Queen which I posted recently - since it is one of the parents. Huge flowers 9 or 10 inches in the north-south direction. A strange ( not strong) perfume, not unpleasant - elusive - can't think what it reminds me of.

Love the elongated petals and the vivid contrast to its center piece. Will always admire the bizarre and macabre world of bulbos flora. A bulbo collection to me has a strange yet not so disimilar resemblance to a varied sci fi movie dvd collection. Elusive and exclusive!

I know a few folks who would disagree with you on that account, Geoff! LOL Just goes to show how even sense of smell varies from person to person. LOVE the flowers on these. Alas the plants I have seen have all been of a size to convince me that I don't have the space for them.

I have a lot of bulbo's and cirrhos -all of them seem able to fill whatever size pot or pan you care to name if you keep them a few years, but most will flower quite nicely in a smaller container. This is in a 5 inch pan, I think. That can't be too big unless you are a real miniaturist ?

My B. echinolabium is also a stinker, and I love it. I used to have a placard above my desk that read, "Eat a live toad in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day." I think the same could also be said when you inhale the fragrance from my flower.

I have a friend that I'm always asking to sniff my orchids. I don't think she's ever going to trust me again.

Looks wonderful! I almost purchased one of these yesterday, but opted for they hybrid Jersey in hopes that it doesn't have the same beautiful aroma.........I keep plants indoors often. Unfortunately, I don't have good light in the bathroom! It'd be in either my office or bedroom.
