Default Sunburn on a Zygo - what to do?

I'm afraid I blew it with my new Zygopetalum noid today; I left it in bright sunlight as it is only Sept 3 and the sun is not hot (the temperature got to +17C). The air also feels cool. I'm afraid I was wrong. The leaves are now discolored in places and look almost transparent. Even the new leaf that is emerging has brown streaks on it. Will it recover from this mistreatment???? I was going to get a basket for it this weekend and hang it from a tree so that it would be protected from direct sun. I should have done that as the first thing...

It's impossible to tell without seeing the extent of the damage, but orchids are tough and yours will probably start putting out new growths soon (assuming it is otherwise healthy)

Pretty much, the only thing to do is to remove the leaves (as they invite disease into the plant), and dust with some powdered sulphur, and move it into a shadier position. Make sure there are no dew/water droplets on the leaves, as the convex shape of the droplets magnifies the sunlight. thus magnifies the heat from the sun. Also, dont leave under clear glass in the sun, and in general, just dont leave it out in direct sun-please!? The cells in the leaves are far more sensitive than the look leads you to believe.

Thank you Michael and Jordan. I'm definitely going to keep my outdoorsy orchids in the shade from now on! Luckily the zygo is actively growing, so I hope it'll grow new leaves soon to make up for the damaged ones. Not all the leaves are damaged, thank goodness!

should be fine I would tend to be more vigilant, as Hamilton weather isnt as harsh as Christchurch weather!
