I picked up two of these plants a few months back at a local retailer for a steal (out of bloom). Each have multiple new growths and this one has spiked and bloomed already! These aren't my favorites but are still very cool. Each flower has a small (<1mm) suspended portion that 'flutters' in a breeze. It does has a fragrance that isn't too offensive but also isn't all that pleasant. Enjoy!

THAT is COOL! So, each of those is an individual flower? Is that right? Did you happen to take a pic of the whole plant? If so, please post it. That is really amazing. The 11 mini-torches make it look so amazing--like it is on fire! It looks like 11 winged insects gathered around something good to eat! I cannot wait for some of the bulbos that Sue traded with us bloom. I hope we have one like this!

That is awesome! I'm starting to really like those. I keep looking at them in catalogs, but have an issue dishing out the $$ for them. Great find, I'm a wee jealous!

Here is a picture of the whole plant for you BD. The flowers in this shot are a bit out of focus but you can refer to the original post for the detail shot. The clump of flowers is approximately 3-4 inches in diameter and is somewhat disc shaped as this picture shows. The leaves are 6-8 inches tall. This plant has 3 new leads - all of which should bloom around the same time in a few months if I can keep the conditions right - that will be very cool! I don't have any idea how long the flowers will last - time will tell. Thanks for looking!

I have been fancying these for a while, but all of the books I have say that these aren't the easiest to grow. Very nice pic!, now to show the wife! mwaa haaa haaa

BD - I was told they are spools for twine/string but I'm honestly not quite sure. You can find them in most antique stores. These came with the other half - they look cool so I've never questioned him on what they are. Most of our furniture is brazilian wood and so these complement the decor nicely.

Tanya - the smell is not pleasant, but it also isn't that strong. I'm not generally a fan of the 'stinky' ones so I'm thankful that I can enjoy these blooms without having to keep the windows open!

I've only had these for a few months which is hardly enough time for me to kill it - or show that I can really grow it! If I can rebloom it on the next bulbs that mature I'll be very happy.
