frogs???

i recently moved to a pretty swampy area [great for humidity, potentially bad for pests!], and on top of that, we've had heavy rains lately, so the frogs are out in DROVES! i have been finding 2 or 3 little guys hiding in my orchids just about every day for the last week or so...i haven't noticed any visible damage, other than the fact that they tip one of my dends. over on a fairly regular basis [but its big and needs to be repotted, so that would probably help]...and they also like to crawl up into the spout of my watering can so that their little froggy butt plugs it up and i can't water, hehe! don't ask me how they get upstairs to my second-floor apartment's balcony and manage to find MY plants to hang out in! i was thinking it might be GOOD to have them around, to eat bugs and pests and such...am i wrong in this assumption? can they cause any damage, and if so, anyone know of any tricks to keep them away?

No, I don't think frogs will do any damage at all, at least, I've never heard that they will.

Far as I know, frogs never attack plants. If you get a lot of mosquitoes as a result of the rain & wet, be grateful because they'll eat lots of the pests.

As long as they are indeed frogs. Toads are another matter. Some dig burrows and some at least here in KW are poison. We have Bufo Toads which can kill kids and animals. People in India used to lick them and go a bit nuts hence the word bufoon.

Yeah! Down with Toads! We have Cane Toads in Oz and yes they are also poisonous.. so keep your children and your pets away from 'em. Actually I've heard similar things about licking these poisonous toads and getting a 'high' from them... I of course wouldn't recommend it.. better of just buying an orchid if you want that thrill!

either way, i think they are too big to try burrowing in my orchids...they are in relatively small pots right now without much extra space for a toad to dig in [except for the dend., which as i said before needs a BIGGER pot, but is in bark/charcoal mix and wouldn't be much fun to burrow in anyway. ) the poison factor is good to consider...i'm sure if you have poison toads in key west, we also have them here in central florida. but i don't have any kids, and the only pet i have is a betta fish. as for me, the LAST thing on my mind is licking a toad...heaven knows i make a buffoon of myself often enough without the help of toad poison!

Sounds like a plague of frogs -- just as long as locusts and all the rest don't follow!
