    Default Biggest Orchid

    Hi!,

Please post a picture of your biggest orchid that you have in care.
Kindly give a little information about them like how long you have it, what it's size when you first got it etc etc.

    Mine is a Gramm. Speciosum.
It's been with me for more than two months, it's more than 3 feet tall now.
Potted in a mixture of coconut hust charcoal in a terracota pot with no bottom.
Just have a little promlem of what would be my proper basket for this and where to hang it nicely and permanently. hehehe

    Here's my speciosum:

Stats: 7-footer, pot diameter is 40cm. Grown from seedling (4 inches tall) in 2003 and yet to flower. Consistently doubled in size every year. What you see is half of the existing plant, because I split it in two when one of the centre canes rotted. Grown in full sun with Papilionanthe and Arundina, watered daily. Potting media: charcoal and large polystyrene pieces. Fed a lot with organic fert.

Heres mine-Angreacum veitchii, closely followed by Dendrobium speciosum var pedunculatum-both of them from Ted (tednz) in Masterton. Thanks heaps! The Dendrobium speciosum is grown outside 24/7, under our palm trees. It receives fairly heavy shade, but it spiked up 7 this year. Unfortunatly 4 of them were chewed off by Weta (HUGE prehistoric bugs) and Snails. I will have had it a year, come New Years. This particular beaut weighs in at around 25/30kgs, and is in a pot little over 40cmat its widest point. Potted in standard bark mix, and what you see here was split a little, my Horticulture teacher received a bit, and it flowered 65 on two spikes for him.

The Angreacum veitchii is grown indoors here, 24/7, although in the height of summer (late december-early march) i might move outside to a well lit position. It receives about 60% shade indoors, too much. I will have had it about 5 months come xmas. He is potted in larger chunks of bark, including the curly cambian bark which is usually omitted from standard mix. She weighs around 30kg, and is in a 10L pot, and is aprox 1-1.3m high

I am certain that both are available-the speciosum may have a hard time, but the Angreacum would LOVE it!
