Here is my very fragrant cattleya Eldorado!
Wow! That is really beautifull
That is just gorgeous, I love the color contrast.
It's a beautiful bloom but I'm sorry it is not at all a Cattleya eldorado.
This plant seems to have Laelia purpurata in the parentage. Maybe, Cattleya (Lc) Canhamiana ?
This is an example of Cattleya eldorado. The border of the lip is characteristic.
Hi Eric...Did you know that the Eldorado species can be highly variable? Go to Google & look. I am just quoting what the tag says...it also came from Brazil...Betty
Betty, I'm sorry (again) but eldorado is not so variable. The lip of your flower is not the lip of eldorado, sepals and petals are not those of eldorado. The shape and the lip (finely fringed, with a large yellow throat and no colored veins in it) of eldorado are characteristic, but the color is highly variable. The lip of your flower looks like Laelia purpurata. Is it a tall plant ? Cattleya eldorado is not a tall plant.
Google is very useful but some photos may be wrong. If you Google for Cattleya eldorado pictures, some of them are clearly not Cattleya eldorado.
Even a plant bought in Brazil may have a bad label.
Anyway it is a beautiful flowering.
Do you want I ask Mauro Rosim what he thinks of this plant ?
The friend who gave me a division had collected it in Brazil...over forty years ago. I cannot ask him about the orchid, since he is deceased. Since I am a hobby orchid grower, it does not matter to me, and i'll keep the same name tag. But thanks for your interest, Eric.....Betty P.S. I just went out and measured the orchid in question. The whole thing is a total of fourteen inches tall. The pot is four inches...the plant ten inches. Anyway, glad everyone likes it...it's precious to me, since it was a gift. Thanks for looking and commenting, everyone!

Im gonna go with eldorado-i have seen growers in my OS who have had this, and almost every plant was different, some with very disputable markings and differences in height. Nonetheless, they were all eldorado's, most of them from the same flask. Eric, this is a highly variable species, there is no disputing.
Very beautiful plant you have there my friends! Eric, yours is beautiful and crystaline, while yours Betty displays amazing contrast!
No idea on the name, but it is just lovely!!! And fragrant, and from a friend...I can see why you treasure it, Betty!!!
I would just love to have that fragrance float freely around the house and garden and pass under my nose. I bet it is beautiful betty. Foolishly i purchased a similar looking stunner ( leaving labels and names aside), purely for the perfumed heavenly scent and I say foolishly because although its 3-4 blooms smelt so amazing, the blooms were so luxurious, the leaves looked unwell and the roots were undergoing a rather sad level of rot as the plant wobbled loosely as I inspected. It is still in a period of shock/ dormancy now but it has just recently born a new shoot so i do hope i can enjoy it once again. I think once one has encountered such an exquiste catt fragrance you never forget it and any future viewing of a catt photo/pic initiates that fond memory.
