It appears to be in the cattleya family, but not sure what type without a bloom.

I am so excited, first bloom on this orchid. I was very surprised by the very fine flower sheath, never seen one of these before. It is a noid, a friend passed it onto me, she couldn't tell me anything about it. Does anyone know what it is. I know the flower would help. But is it a Laelia?

I have no clue--thus making me clueless. LOL Can hardly wait to see pics of the blooms.
Thanks guys,(you are quick over there. 10.36am here). Won't be long now for the blooms, will keep you posted.
Ciao
Just got home from work over here; actually a bit early today. (6:41 pm yesterday for you )
cheers,

Definitely looks to be of the catt alliance. Won't be able to be sure until it blooms, but the way the spike looks, I'd say that the odds are high that it either is a Laelia or has Laelia in its background.
The plant form suggests it is a bifoliate Cattleya, but the inflorescence tells another story. Can't wait to see the flowers. How big is the plant?
The spike looks a lot like the one on my epc Beverly Shea.
I concur with Paul very nice looking forward the flower.
Here's a photo of my epc Beverly Shea spike. The epi is epi ciliare--just remembered.
This spike is more advanced than the one posted.
