    Talking Now Open...

Here are two more of my babies that have just come into bloom. One is a rescue from the 'box store', the other an oldie but a goodie. The first is Bl. Yellow Bird (Bl. Richard Mueller x B. nodosa), it is a little darker yellow than the photo, but not nearly as bright yellow as some pictures of these I have seen. This is the rescue plant. Second is C. Belairensis (C. intermedia 'White Dwarf' x C. skinneri var. alba), one of my older babies. Does anyone know if the Yellow Bird is supposed to have fragrance? It's only been open 3 days, but I can't detect a fragrance.... (and the photo of the Yellow Bird - the flash washed out the spots on the petals, maroon spots just like on the lip)

Wow, I love the Bl. Yellow Bird. What a great cross, and great name to go with it! Great rescue, and nice job reblooming it!

I don't know if Yellow Bird is supposed to have fragrance, but you might try putting it in strong light for 15 minutes and giving a sniff then. A lot of times, the fragrance is light-activated.

Nice Belairensis, too. (didn't want it to feel neglected, and I'm more partial to wider petals and sepals....)

I've heard a lot of positive things about the Mueller crosses,
not sure about the fragrance, though.
another thread mentions the color can develop over a few days,
and elsewhere I've heard the color can vary from season to season.
Seen any age effects on yours, yet?

I also second the vote of appreciation for the Belairensis,
the light violet/lavender color is really close to coerula
for which I have a peculiar fondness.
