    Rhynchostylis gigantea var.red

Hi all, first time to post my Rhy. gigantea collection's photos. Wish you like them, too.
This one comes across with the solid red ruby color (or whatelse one can imagine, sometimes those red petals make me think of a glass of red wine...)

The photos were the last winter's bloom, not recent one, as we were encountered with the flood situation, so we've moved our collection upstairs to the terrace. This winter has not provided me the bloom like the last one, we have to work harder on helping them recover and come back to full flourish again! Now it's the Rhy.gigantea blooming season here...missing them so much, the foxtails spikes & their fragrance are always what I'm waiting for the winter to come.

WOW! That is some gigantea. It is so gorgeous. May I ask how old the plant is?

I am so sorry to hear about the flood you experienced. I hope your family and friends are ok. Please take care of this gigantea. It is amazing.

    Hi Naoki!
Thank you for your good wishes, now we're all o.k.
I agree with you, this is what the feeling gigantea can give me, too. Glad you like it.
I'm not sure about the age, when I've bought it, it's already this big! I think it should be about 5-6 years old up+++
It's quite amazing to have this big Rhy gigantea in red, though, the ones we grow from flasks are the little kids compare to this one,
and it's not easy to find the big plants either. Definitely, we'll pamper & take good care, this's one of my favourites of all!

    Glad to hear the new.

I have two of them; one is 'peach' and the other is 'spots'. Although the peach one is still tiny, it bloomed. The 'spots' is about to bloom in a few days. The funny thing is that I ignored its name 'gigantea'. The plant gets BIG, doesn't it? hahaha.

Maybe the reason it gets big is within its name 'gigantea', makes me think of 'gigantic' things...^_^
In Thailand we all call them in one word "elephant orchid", we think their spikes just look like elephant's nose or ivories.
Wish yours become bigger each year, too, both plants & their spikes!

Hi Smurphr, nice to know that you got one ^^ (although you picked it up on accident),
but you'll like it! From my growing experience, the small Rhy gigantea doesn't provide the spikes like foxtail yet, but later year, if the plant grows bigger,
it's charged with the inside power to born more impressive foxtail spikes. What color are yours?

i was really fortunate, one of my favorite sellers in the weekend market always has the most variety and at amazing prices! the pic that was posted next to them should have mine roughly the same color as yours!!! yay!! and im extra lucky cuz mine came with one spike already forming.. its a well developed plant... and only 6us$ !!! thats why it was an accident... cheap and not too young, irresistible!
