My Encyclia Phoenicea has finally opened the first bud. It took a long time. With the little spike from beginning of November 2011 until 1.28.12 with the first bud fully open. But the fragrance is very lovely like a piece of chocolate.
Love it!
thanks cathy, it was definately worth the wait.
That is a stunning flower! I love encyclias so much-what is the cross? Cordigrera plus another enc?
Beautiful bloom - such rich colors! The shape of the lip especially made me wonder whether there was Oncidium or Miltonia in its background. Nope. I just looked it up and OWiz says it's now Chloraea phoenicia and no further information. I assume the RHS has been busy again, renaming things.

Congratulation Gabriela very beautiful and worth to wait for almost about 2 months, good thing the smell is fantastic.
Gorgeous flower!
Lovely bloom. Love the coloration and form. Thank you for sharing.
It would still be Encyclia phoenicea, but this flower is not phoenicea. It appears to be an Enc. cordigera hybrid; maybe someone else will recognize it. It usually takes a couple of generations of hybridizing to flatten the sepals and petals of Enc. cordigera.
Encyclia's are favorites of mine also. That is one classy bloom you have there and since it wears a fine perfume, that doubles the pleasure. AL
