[QUOTE=mauraec;291323][SIZE=4][COLOR="#4B0082"]This is the first bloom of this hybrid t so that they can register it!

Two registrations needed Maura (first Red Sky x Flame Arrow) - because the new registration must be between two registrations ( or of course two species or one registration and one species)... and strictly speaking the Registrar will ask if the breeder of the first one ( Red Sky x Flame arrow) consents to the registration. But maybe your supplier bred both.
    Best of luck.

Thanks everyone, for your kind comments. I'll pass them along to our friends. They were breeding for the horizontality, small, even spots, and wider tepals (side petals) of sukhakulli, as well as a larger, flatter dorsal, a dark burgundy pouch, and a synsepal that would balance the dorsal better. They didn't achieve anything astonishing, but the profile of this bloom is, in most ways, better than the usual coloratura. And, very importantly, this bloom has nearly perfect vertical symmetry. Subsequent bloomings should result in even larger, more substantial, and stronger displays, without distorting the pro portion. I'm pushing them to register it as the grex "Chere Amie".

Thanks for the reminder, Geoff. I doubt they bred Red Sky x Flame Arrow, but they've registered about 30 hybrids already, so I imagine they know the ropes, but, for the sake of completeness, I will remind them of that prior requirement. That makes TWO Grexes we get to name! This is such fun! I find the hybridizing aspect of paphs fascinating, and am studying my Paph. Alliances and dominant and recessive traits as well as I remember how to study - it's been a long time since I "hit the books". I find the history of hybridizing very absorbing as well - well over 100 years of "trying to build a better mousetrap", with the aesthetics, and technology, of the time dictating the outcome.
