Here is Stapelia gigantea , The black in the center is not a fly it is part of the plant a fake so flies will land for pollination ... It is outside ... Gin

Geez Gin; you show such good taste in plants, most of the time. Glad that it's yours and not mine!
Thought about sending the flower to my SIL . Or I will send starts to all my forum friends ...
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!
Can I be your friend Gin? That one looks like it'll be *good* n smelly! We have all the right flies for it, too. I can send you some!
Judging from the reactions, Gin, I'd say this one is definitely a guy thing...

PS - the fake insect pollina is cool though!
It is closed up now , yesterday there were clumps of pollen laying in it . Funny thing is it has never produced a seed pod . It has another flower about to open , if it bloomed in the winter it would be history , it did bloom in my other green house , I tore the place up looking for a dead mouse .
As per usual, Gin is too good to Lou & me. She gave us this stinky last September and it had a bud on it then. This is the first time since that bud that we have bloomed it. The bud took a long time to form and open, but was only open for a day. It has three more tiny buds forming! The center part really does look like a bug or fly. Very cool & as far as I can tell, not really stinky. It is called Stapelia gigantea, enjoy!
Cheers!
