Default Vanda roots have brown fuzz on them? looks like peat moss? mabe Mold? what is it???

I just received my very first Vanda orchid yesterday morning! It had been in a box for about 3 days from shipping. I immediately soaked the roots in some water since they looked quite dry. Then placed it in the clear plastic strainer part of a glass tea pot put some warm water in the outer part so it will get more humidity( hard to explain vanda is not siting in water see photo). Roots looked relatively clean but a little on the light green side. I placed it in a window were it would get filtered light ( i want to ease it into more light slowly) The humidity is about 55-75% . At Night time ( right after the run goes down) I place it on the humidifier on top but not in the steam or anything . The temp is about 75-85 and humidity is VERY HIGH. I live in Washington so the night time temp in the window gets kind of chilly 59-65. To cold for the Vanda.

This morning i notice that there is some brown stuff on the roots. Looks and feels just like peat moss. It was not there when i went to bed last night. Is it mold or bugs or something ? There are also some white marks on the roots It looks kind of like scale but its way to translusent and when you go to pick them off they apear to be the skin on the roots that is almost bubbled up a liite like a skin blister. Could that have been from being shipped? Any and all advice or help is most appreciated. I want to take as good of care of my Vanda as possible.

I would spray with a mild fungicide. I would almost bet it is staying a little moist.

    Default fungicide

Do you have any suggestions on which fungicide to use? So you dont think it has bugs? That's a relief . I have never used a fungicide before so i have no idea on which one to use. ---vendor/ sales information deleted - see faqs on posting! ---

You know I just reread this. The brown parts just might be damage from shipping. I would still spray with maybe physan 20 and make sure it is not staying too wet.

I agree. Treat with physan 20 and keep an eye on it. I'm sure it will be fine.

    cheers,

Talking Thank you for helping me!!!!

I live in the desert so being to wet is kind of funny. I took the pic after i had just soaked the roots in some running room temp water. I'm going to get some of the physan 20. I can grow Beautiful healthy phalaenopsis and oncidium but i this is my first Vanda......I'm just scared that im not doing it right. I soak the roots every morning and IF they look dry in the mid day i give it a little mist. lots of sun in a sunny window and try to keep it from getting to cold at night. Dos any one have any suggestion on fertilizer or do i just use the same stuff that i do on my other orchids. Do you think i should put it in a tiny little basket? The hole plant roots and all is probably only 5 inches tall.

You should talk to Al (orchidsal). He lives in the high desert and grows vandas.
Anyway good luck and I look forward to post on your progress.
