Lighting in Buffalo NY?

Hey Everyone, I live in Buffalo NY,but I know how harsh the winters are.
I do have some 40 watt lights to prepare, but I'm worried about my higher light growing phals, bellinas, violaceas ect.
I was just wondering if they might need a little bit more light than just 40 watts.
I notice that even if they recieve lower light for at least a day their leaves get less trurgid.....
Anyone have any input on this subject?

Allesandra, if it's a fluorescent bulb and the plants are kept near the center within 6 or 7 inches under the lamp and not out toward the edges, they should receive plenty of light. An incandescent bulb would put out too much heat I think for as close as you would need to put the plants to get the light intensity.
