    Still nothing.

    Well, not so easy apparently.

I'll try again after I give the rest of them a cooldown.

it is not so hard actually, the trick is to score the seed before you try germinating it.

i tried a couple last fall (mistake), but they never got past the little green shoot stage. i guess it was just too chilly, and they LOVE heat. i may try again with a seedling mat under them, though trying to grow them here in canada seems a little silly.

i've read that they successfully germinated seeds found in an egyptian tomb that were apparently 3000 years old! so you could actually go to a craft store and buy one of those dried up seed heads and try it. they are really cheap.

i can't find the link i saw before when i was looking into this, but here's one that should help.

(i'll let you know if i ever find the other one. it was highly entertaining.)

keep us posted. i'd love to see a step by step pictoral of it's growth.

mo, thank you, thank you! What an excellent page of instructions! Well no wonder my seeds didn't do anything, if the darned things are supposed to remain dormant for *decades* before sprouting!

That was some excellent info--I will definitely try them again now that I know how to do it, and you can bet I'll post pics! Thanks again!

Well that plant is thanks to Gilda, actually. She sent a dormant tuber late last winter for us to try out, and it sure turned into a beauty! It's been awful hot here lately though, and I think some of the older leaves have gotten a little scorched. The water level in the pond keeps dropping too, so we keep having to move the tub the lotus is planted in further and further out to keep it submerged. I don't know how it would do in bog conditions instead of being completely wet.
