Even with unlimited money, impulse buys still have to go some where when you get home, so I voted 3-5. I can always go back and get another 3-5 once I've done some shuffling around. Oh and the other human house residents don't get displaced in the process.

Thats a Great question, I am bad, because my husband says "Be Careful" because he knows my habits. There is a show and sell next month near by, and I hope I can afford 3 to 5 new ones

For about a year now its been TOO MANY! Even with very limited financial resources! I guess if we wanted to play this game, I could take some of those unlimited funds and have several 20,000 sq ft. greenhouses constructed on the new acreage I'd have just bought in Belize or Costa Rica and we could go back to the nursery and go nuts.
    Cheers,
    Tony

Tony, I like the way you think. You aren't, by chance, available are you? LOL

I think I actually may be developing some restraint--hard to imagine! My shelves are full, I'm running out of places to display bloomers and plants seem to be dying less regularly than before. I'm actually getting more selective in what I want to buy and considering getting rid of some things (like all my dendrobiums, why do they grow and grow but never bloom?).

Of course, that theory will be tested next month when our orchid club holds its first-ever auction. In the past we've had sales with set prices and the only member with a greenhouse (a 20' x50') would take home whatever didn't sell. Now, everything must go! and there may be too many bargains to resist.

No matter what the case may be, unlimited money, even unlimited space, it's kind of like eating a lot of chocolate; You get sick of it after a while and it's not as enjoyable. I chose 3-5 because of this. Plus, thinking about all the work and care that can go into these beautiful plants, I couldn't, with good conscience, have more than I could handle.

Nope - I'm with Tony. Unlimited funds will enable me to have the space and be retired so I can have the time, and hire someone(s) to help.

I will grab as many as I can especially species which are not available in my collections not hybrids, it's come only once than disappear for ever, I dont want to regret one day why when I got the opportunity I dont take it, many people always say like that, the past nothing much we can do except for a sweet memory only. The choice depend on us usually I will looking for the uniqueness and beautiful, whether they can flower or not that is different story.He.he.he What do you think Alex?

I chose eight. I am running out of space and still buying things like a theobroma cacao (chocolate) and a pimenta officinalis (allspice) which will become quite large. Still, browsing through lists of various vendors, I counted between six and eight orchids that still tempt me. If the vendor had them all, I'd buy them. : )
