Questions about Phal Seedlings (compot)

I have several phal seedlings with leaf spans ranging from barely 2 inches to 5-6 inches in one pot. I think the larger ones are getting too big and are crowding out the smaller babies. I'm planning to separate each one into its own pot. So do you think it's safe to transfer the smaller 2-inch phals (into tiny pots) yet? I don't want to shock them--they're so little. But if it's safe, then any tips on how to repot these? (I mean, any differences in this repotting procedure compared to repotting matured phals.)

Another question about the medium. The phals are potted in sphag (I've had too many root rot incidents in sphag earlier on) so I'd like to switch to bark. First of all, will it hurt the seedlings to switch media? Also, the only type of bark I have is the regular sized bark. The pieces seem to be way too big for seedlings, so can I cut them into smaller pieces or something? (I know this may sound weird...lol)

When nowbodies about whack the bark in the blender.
It soon will go to small bark.
I haven,t played with compots or de-flasking yet so no idea about the seedlings.
Does running around in circles , waving your arms above your head & screaming "What do i do ? "What do i do?" @ the top of your voice help @ all.

Never has helped me - even tho' I've done it LOTS of times!

I just switched three of my little Phal guys (about 2 to 3 inch) from sphag. to little S/H pots about two weeks ago. At first two of the three got a little droopy, but now they are quite perky.
I hope this helps a bit.

Hi Lily,

I've read and seen some other growers divide up the compots where the larger plants go into their own pots whilst the littlies go back into another compot.

Thanks for the info, everyone!

This was what I did (yeah, today was repotting day ), and I put the two largest phals into separate pots filled with chopped up bark. Hope they'll go through the change without sulking. The other little guys went back to the compot filled with sphag. One little phal was so tiny and fragile that I became a bit about changing media (me the worrier). Maybe I should put them in bags tomorrow? Just to boost up humidity.

I'll be observing the seedlings closely over the next few days...
