@Cattan thanks alot. I am so pleased that it is finally adjusting. Not only have I got new sub roots branching I have got old root tips showing bright new green tips as well so, (taking a deep breath and crossing fingers) I think I might just be out of the woods after all.

I am late with this advice, but not to late I think. If over the summer it gets hot and or lower humidity I would water twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Vandas love water, but you need not do long soaks..................a few minutes each time is enough. I'm glad to hear that this orchid is coming along so well. AL

Better late than never Al. Thanks all the same I have been giving it a long soak (about 20-30 mins). So far so good, it has started to grow roots again so maybe it is OK for my coerulea? I shall start to reduce the amount of time that it soaks for and wean it off until I am down to a few minutes each time.

i just bought one this size and it has considerably more roots. i think yours is losing leaves to even off it's water usage versus the amount of roots it has, as the roots grow it should stop doing that. plus i'm sure shipping is rough on an orchid. i like seeing people grow vandas in glass vases. i might give it a try one day soon.

It did have a few dead ones that I had to cut off when it arrived. Now that it has been getting more frequent waterings it has stopped shedding leaves -thank god! It is now growing more new sub roots from old roots, old roots growing new root tips and maybe even a brand new root from inbetween the leaves so all in all I think that I might be over the worst of it.

Susie, I'm glad to hear your roots are taking off! That's definitely a good sign and means that it's starting to like you. One thing I've learned about Vandas is that they tend to sulk for a while when you first introduce them to their new home...fortunately, orchids are just as hard-headed about not dying as they are about sitting there and doing nothing at times. Every day is a new one as an orchid grower, isn't it? But they wouldn't be as fascinating and lovable if they were boring! It's all trial and error, and mercifully orchids really do allow us a lot of errors before they allow themselves to die. I like to think of them as cats (no pun in tended lol) - They're not here for us, we're here for them. Unlike dogs, they don't do what we want at our beck and call but they sure are enjoyable and beautiful

Thanks Sand_Tiger! That was a very insightful and moving. I also feel that the ones that make us worry and give us sleepless nights are the ones that we love all the more for it. They usually give us the most rewarding and best blooms consequently and so I am looking forward to seeing this one bloom. Thanks for all of your help.
