here in los angeles we have ants that carry scale, mealies, and aphids, and red spider mites always attack at some point over summer, but we have a much more devestating pest that i cannot identify yet, but attacks members of the cattleya tribe, like epidendrums, and some phals and lidisias. little tiny black barely moving specks, like flea shaped, that cling to the undersides of leaves. you get this silvery stippling look which eventually can turn to black and yellow sick looking spots or even dried spots on the leaves, once you remove the pests the damage slowly shows itself. i don;t know what they are, but qwuickly can decimate ludisias. i get them ini remote places indoors, and on my balcony in the shade every spring and sometimes again in the summer they come back. i use neem and dishsoap sprays routinely to keep them at bay.
