I started doing a count and catalog at one time. I gave up. Too many to count. It takes enough time to just care for them. hahahah...

    cheers,

I just did a count on the orchids in the house. There are 79 in the house. Next I go for the shade house. Almost scared to go there.

3500 in Arizona?? Does he give tours? So you have a family genetic predisposition to raise orchids. Good going - stick to your roots!

If I counted mine it would be depressing to think of the $$$$$ spent, but if I subtract that from the feeling of accomplishment and joy I get from a blooming plant I come out on top.

Positive side: orchids make great company. Better than...*ahem*...some people.

    AMEN!!! Very well said.

I think this is the part that non-orchid people just don't "get." My husband just sees my orchids as more "stuff in the house." But growing orchids isn't the same as collecting porcelain cat statues or engraved plates or other knick-knacks...or, maybe it is...I dunno--I've never "collected" anything before the orchids. LOL! Perhaps my parents get the same amount of joy out of their knick-knacks as I do out of my orchids.... but, seeing how their stuff just sits around collecting dust, I highly doubt it.

Orchids are great because you pay for them once, but they pay you back forever!

Wow! 3500! Yeah, he's probably one of those orchid society member who always brings in multiple orchids with the magnificent blooms that we all enjoy. Impressive! (and a warning to us all!)
