    Default phal with crown rot?

My friend sent me these photos of her sickly phal.

We suspect root and crown rot. Leaves started turning yellow from bottom up, then falling off. Last 2 leaves fell today.

She immediately unpotted, trimmed up roots with sterilized scissors (she found most to be brown and black and mushy)- leaving 6 healthy roots- 2 of which are aerial, and one new root with green growing tip.

She repotted into coarse bark mix, probably into too big of a pot, but it was all she had on hand. She plans to douse with hydrogen peroxide, and I've some physan to share.

I'm not sure what else to tell her to try. Please see photos below.

I know some of you have rescued phals at death's door, and, as it has a few good roots....maybe it's salvageable?

If she succeeds it will be a miracle of sorts. Best of luck to her.

It also good to always dust off any cut ends with Flower of Sulphar powder to protect the wounds agains infections.

Cassandra, did she give it a chance to dry out before she repotted? I've found sometimes if you don't dust the cuts with cinnamon or the sulphur first to remove the moisture, it just kills it anyway. Liquid fungicides help but they are still liquid and if you have rot caused by moisture then it kinda defeats the purpose IMO. She can let it dry out by not watering it for a week or 10 days since it's already in the bark, just to err on the side of caution and give the physan to work it's magic and the cuts to callus over. When she finally spritzs it, she can try puttin it in a large clear bag to create a mini greenhouse, the moisture the plant creates on the bag can sustain it if it is salvageable. I figure it all depends on her environment as to how much water it should get and how often until she sees a response, either positive or negative. This is the part where you learn patience and persistence if it isn't your strong suit like me.
