Cattleya Maxima

Hi all, I re-potted 80% of my orchids into SH roughly a month ago. Catching my attention was this Maxima where it was rotting in the bark media with no roots at all and now it has grown an eye with a healthy looking root. I am sure its on its way to a healthy plant. Each successive new growth was smaller than the previous and lets hope the SH would return it to its glory. Although I am note sure about the hairy fungus/mould growing in the clay pellets but I don't see it doing any harm as such.

Gurj, it is not a Cattleya maxima, Cattleya maxima is a unifoliate species, I think it will be most probably a hybrid. Secondly the tiny root you see is not from the new growth, it is from the same old growth from which the new bud is developing. Even though the developing bud is a good sign, I am not sure if this growth will be better than the previous one. If you take care of this new growth correctly then it will produce new roots after it matures, so then the next new growth will be definitely better

Hey Amey! thanks for the correction. It was from this forum someone identified it as Maxima so I stuck to it. I really hope it gets better soon as we are now slowly past mid-summer.

Congrats on the new growth. Maybe you can hit it with the usual anti fungal and see if you can get more air circulation to help with the drying out process. Hopefully it will catch itself soon and grow right out of the pot.

In my opinion you are keeping your plant too wet. Are there any holes in the bottom of that plastic pot? It looks really wet on top. I would recommend to re-pot into a terra cotta pot as you seam to water too much and terra cotta lets the plant breath through the pot as well. Hope that helps.

Thank you all for your respective input. It looks wet because I fertilised/misted shortly before picturing it. It was fairly dry and I usually relieve the dryness. I don't tend to fertilise the SH directly in the water conserve at the bottom, so I mist it on the top.
