I guess it is mini-catt season at my house!
This is the first bloom for this little plant, and it completely snuck up on me, producing a bud without at least warning me first with a sheath!
I love the purple flower (even if it ended up a bit askew) and it is lightly fragrant in the mornings.

Lovely 'blue' mini catt!
Ahhh...gorgeous!!! This makes me that much more anxious for my Mini-Quinee to bloom!! Mine's still growing up, so the blooms will be a surprise when they arrive.
I had a catt do the "no sheath" thing for me just last week! I was looking at my Lctna. Mighty Titan and I saw some weird thing poking up in between two leaves. It turned out to be a spike with a bud on it. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until after I had left that side facing the sun for too long, and, well, the spike blasted. Boo. I agree that a little warning with a sheath would have been nice.
I'm glad yours bloomed out so beautifully!! Gorgeous catt you have there!
Thanks Jenn! The lack of sheath (and that I thought it was too little to bloom on this pseudobulb) is why the flower ended up angled - I didn't bother to stake it up!
I'm guessing yours will bloom soon; mine was only in a 2.5 inch pot when this photo was taken and the leaves are about 4 inches long. So, they don't need to get too big to bloom!
Most Cariad's Mini-Quinee have great coerulea colors as well as only one flower on a spike.
Yours is no exception.
Interesting Horst, I hadn't noticed that this little guy tends to have only one flower per spike, but a quick Google search, of course, showed you to be absolutely correct! What an unusual characteristic. Now, of course, my primary goal for this plant is to get two flowers on a spike![]()
Cariad's Mini-Quinee is a hybrid made with Cattleya Mini Purple (Cattleya pumila x Cattleya walkeriana) and Cattleya intermedia.
Cattleya walkeriana (1 to 3 flowers) and Cattleya intermedia (3 to 6 flowers) have more than one flower on a spike.
Cattleya pumila has normally one sometimes two flowers.
Your plant has Cattleya intermedia and Cattleya walkeriana characteristics.
Therefor the chance to get more than one flower is good.
