Wow! Those are huge! We have a local nursery that has a schomb wrapped around the entire diameter of a large palm tree. One day when I have a section from my Tibiana that is off the mount, I will put it on the large oak in our front yard. The oaks in the back yard are now the home of Enc. tampensis that was removed from a local tree that went down in the last tornado we had. I'm running out of trees to mount plants on. lol

That was in Tulum, Mexico. I think it is more windy than Tampa FL, it is relatively dry. that woman was good at growing. There were "eco - friendly" hotels that would attach them outside on their trees and would look like drying / dying plants. I think Myrmecophilas are slow growing in my experience. I have a M. tibicinis that i was sent for a trade, but the new growth is not as big. Having seen them in the natural habitat in Mexico , growing near the water in Mangrove swamps I believe they may need more warmth and humidity than sun. anyway have you seen that stick with P. boothiana? that is huge too

I really like this one. It looks very happy in that wood basket.

No more trees? Do you think they'd grow on cactus??

I was in Tulum back in 2001. My honeymoon trip was just too much fun. We went to the ruins in Tulum and stayed up the road in Playa del Carmen. It is an amazing place to visit. Back then I didn't collect orchids yet...otherwise i'm sure I would have brought a few species home with me. And I agree, that lady has one amazing boothiana. I hope mine will be that large someday...

Only 2 hybrids have been registered, both with other Prosthechea species. x Psh. radiata = Psh. James Burkhalter and x Psh. cochleata = Psh. Edward O'dell. Some hybridizers out there have missed out on a logical choice.

Can anyone say if this typical , or is it variable ?
This species often tends more toward creamy green background color, and larger darker spots that run together. This is a bright one. Form is typical.

My trawl of the internet found a specialist nursery not a million miles from Tampa Bay listing this species and quite few interesting hybrids : but this side of the pond nothing.
    I'll keep looking....

I have not seen it in situ near Tulum unlike Brassavola nodosa ( a bunch on a just fallen Ficus were roasting in the sun), and so many Myrmecophilas and some Catasetum and rat tail Oncidiums. I wonder if it grows thicker in the forest or some other areas. It looks like the Florida variety is self pollinating unless others present in other countries.

Anyway been to Tulum twice. I heard it is changing. some areas are touristy yet it can not be developed with high rises. the tourists seem to go to certain spots and ignore the rest. Playa del Carmen, I just spent less than an hour to get the bus to Cancun airport seems like a tourist strip with restaurants on the beach. Anyway I loved going to Coba, exploring with a rented bicycle and I am sure if I had a car I would have visited more.

I swam in a cenote surrounded by mangroves, there where Myrmecophilas in spike everywhere, some were fallen in the water and were rotting. I wish i would have seen the spikes. Anyway Psh boothiana to me looks more appealing than the more common cochleata. good find. it looks happy in that basket and I like that it looks move vibrant than what I saw around on the internet.
