Switch them into free draining pots. The roots will rot otherwise.
good luck!

I just purchased two new Orchids (Dendrobium and Oncidium), and they came in tall closed pots, covered with sphagnum moss, so I cannot see the roots at all. I normally keep my orchids in pots with holes in them. Should I switch the Orchids into new pots or keep them in the closed pots? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I always repot my new acquisitions. That way you can check the root health, and put them up in a media YOU are successful with. Drainage is a big issue- they were probably put in solid pots so they wouldnt wet on the table and were sold with the idea of them being disposed after flowering anyhow- but they will rot if their pots and media aren't free draining. Are these your first orchids?
Thank you!

They aren't my first, but I'm easily as unsuccessful as any beginner, sadly. I usually buy my orchids in clear plastic pots, with drainage, so it's not an issue. But I bought these on impulse in a grocery store and they came in these awful pots. I will repot them, thanks much for the advice!
