Exclamation Encyclia Radiata root growth help needed

    Hey guys,

I am hoping someone can answer this question. I have an encyclia radiata ching hua that was bought in March. The green foliage and stems looks great but the roots are another story. I am hoping to encourage new root growth. ( all the previous roots are shriveling up and maybe there is one healthy looking root left) Is there a good/successful way to encourage new root growth? This plant needs new roots to survive I believe!

    Any help appreciated!- Steph

I'm no expert but had an Encyclia Gay Rabbit that never seemed to grow roots. After several months I decided to mount it and now it has tons of roots. I had to mount the mount onto a larger mount to accomodate the root growth! I also grow outside (for now starting to get cool here at night)

If I can stop giggling here for a second...ummm...hmmm. Ok. I have an encyclia as well. Mine isn't mounted but it is potted with very little media. Drains very quickly and doesn't stay moist at all really. I would guess that these plants want to send roots out on a mission FOR water. Not because of its presence. I'd try to keep it humid but potted or mounted in such a way that it will dry very quickly...but water fairly often once root growth begins.

Well isn't it just perfect that the Gay Rabbit would only be happy after being mounted? Why else would it send out roots?

Well sometimes I think of myself as a Gay Rabbit, now I will leave it at that! If Steph mounts her Encyclia I hope it responds as well as me and my Gay Rabbit have.
