general question

Hi everyone... I have three orchids here in my dorm room with me, and two of them are growing new shoots/leaves. The third is a phal. recovering from root rot, and its growing a few new roots. It'll be a few months before I see any spikes growing from any of these, right? thanx!

Hi , Kind of depends on what the others are . most bloom if they are gonna on the new growth , the Phal. might be late ,once it has a number of roots it probably will bloom for you . It depends on the type of plant and the light food ect. they are getting .. Good luck with them Gin

Quinmutt, like Gin said, it really depends on what kind of orchids they are. If they're oncidium intergenerics (which they may be, the way you're talking about new shoots) and those new ones just started growing out the base of the old growths not long ago, yes, you're right, it'll be at least a few months before they bloom.

You ever decide what you're going to do about your heater / no light problem, or am I confusing you with someone else?

Once your phal is healthy enough to spike, then it will. Larger temperature differences in autumn (lower night temps) can help initiate spikes. But it may take a while for a recovering phal to get back to top health. May not be this year for flowers. I've a recovering phal...so let's cross our fingers, lol . Patience is the key.

Thanx everyone... and yea, im the one with the heater and low light. actually, the light is not too bad now. it's the same as they were getting before I moved... I think I'll rig something to lift my plants way above the heater so I don't have to search for supplimentary lighting in the winter... thanx again for everything, guys!
