Great addition Al. The sanderiana influence is very strong.

Anyway, gorgeous addition to your collection, Al! This is one to add to my wish list! Congrats!
The reclassification was done more than 40 years ago if I remember correctly, and sanderiana was/is the sole representative in this genus and Euanthe is generally ignored by both breeders and hobbyists. Imagine the confusion that will ensue in the whole vandaceous section if everyone were to use Euanthe and Vandanthe..... Incidentally that is not the only controversy concerning this particular orchid - there was also one where there were lots of argument on whether it should be sanderiana or sanderana. The 'i' must have won. ( or sanity prevailed ).

Thanks folks! I am told that i have a habit of purchasing to many orchids in the brown, orange, and yellow category. I have reds and purple/blues also, but hardly any pinks and few pastels. Well after hanging this Vanda up, I must admit the contrast has defintely improved. Your nice comments here confirm this view. Thanks Again! AL

Nice Vanda Al, since the flowers are shot, it still shows some real quality there.

Al, the only person who is allowed to decide when you have too many orchids of a certain color is YOU! It sounds like you are simply drawn to the warmer colors, which is perfectly fine! I found that I tend to gravitate toward the cooler colors... in fact, I didn't even really like Cattleyas until I discovered they came in colors other than the traditional "sunset" orange and red combo (which is what I'd always seen displayed at arboretums!) Once I discovered they came in blue/white, purple/yellow, and purple/green, I was suddenly very interested in them! This is when I realized that I just happen to prefer the cooler colors.

I do have a sunset orange phal, though...I had to mix it up a little bit...hehee. And I have a fiery red Catt that is getting ready to bloom (it was a bargain buy for $2.50!! I think it's "in sheath"...I still don't quite know my Catt parts...LOL) But there's absolutely nothing wrong with having lots of orchids in the same color family.

Whatever makes you happy is what matters!!

YIKES!!! I only mentioned it because I've been searching for a nursery selling the Sanderiana var Alba (I can't find one anywhere)...and I kept getting photo results with captions that read Vanda (Euanthe) Sanderiana var. Alba. I was a tad confused. So I did a little digging and saw that it had been reclassified as Euanthe. I didn't realize that had happened 40 years ago, and that for all intents and purposes, everyone just ignored it.

I'm trying to keep up with all the name changes...I just reluctantly changed all my Doritis Pulcherrima tags to read Phal Pulcherrima, and my Dtps tags to plain "Phal." I sulked the entire time. I was just wondering if, when I do finally manage to acquire one of these beauties, I should label it as a Vanda or a Euanthe! Looks like I'll be OK with Vanda!

Thanks for the info! I can always count on someone here in the forum to know what's going on with orchid names.

Be careful buying Euanthe sanderiana alba, there are some very good ones but a truck load of rubbish being sold also.
