    Question Vanda potting mix

I currently have a vanda in a basket. It is being stabilized in coconut husk fiber. Is that a bad idea?

Depends on your watering schedule. Vanda orchids like to dry out between waterings. The coco husk fiber might hold too much water if you water often or don't have enough air movement. All of my vandas are grown in a greenhouse (so high humidity) and are planted in lava rock and x-large redwood bark.

    cheers,

    Default Vanda pot mix.

My vanda is in a basket. I thought I could use the coconut fiber to help stabilize it since there are only what appears to be two roots. How would I use lava rock?

    Default Vanda pot mix.

So the photos are of the vandas in coconut fiber? It doesn't look like it. I would take a picture of mine, but have not found out how to do it yet. Nice plants. How often do they bloom.

    Please respond.

I have tried to follow your instructions on how to add photos with no success. I have an iPhone, flicker, photo stream. Tried using the icon where you add the http file and it is not accepted. Any ideas?

I believe there was a similar thread a few months ago which you should be able to find about stabilizing a vanda with few roots and encouraging new roots, I believe the thread was started by Angela, but a great detailed instruction was provided by another member.

Hi Moni I used totally coconut fibers let see the close up photos below. Talking about the vanda species blooms that is the most tricky and difficult to answer I only can elaborate some of them based on my experience. Here we go
Vanda arcuata 4 to 6 times a year.
Vanda dearii 4 to 6 times a year
Vanda luzonicz 4 to 6 times
Vanda tessellata 4 to 6 times
    vanda denisoniana 4 to 6 a years
vanda coerulea 4 to 5 times
Vanda jennae 1 or 2 highland plant
Vanda tricolor 3 to 5 times
Vanda hestifera var. hes 2 to 4 times
Vandas canden 4 to 6 times
Vanda hindsii 1 to 3 times
Vanda helvola 3 to 5 times.
All are based on my observation in Melaka Malaysia near the Equator.
