Default Monn. Millenium Magic 'Witchcraft' AM/AOS

I bought this one last spring at a show. I summered it out doors giving it lots of sun, water and fertilizer. This fall it gave me two spikes. Unfortunately one was broken off by me. A few weeks ago it dropped all its leaves and a week later the buds began to open. I know that it needs repotted so am going to put it in a wooden basket with coarse medium. From what I understand I should wait until the new growth/growths form and have developed roots. I also believe that I should cut back on watering until that time and give it a period of dormancy. Any help with suggestions would be much apreciated by those of you who grow these. I really love the depth of color and the glossiness of the blooms. I am posting several pics of the bloom. The second pic I used a flash to try and show the high gloss of the blooms. The pics show the red of the blooms but looking at it it really appears black. It has a nice lite fragrance which i like very much.

actually i have seen ppl take a Catasetum out of its pot and clean off the old media and the roots and store it in bright area in an empty pot until the new eye sprouts and reaches 2 inches or so then pot up in media...your plant looks like a relative of
Cynoches and Catasetums from the pseudobulbs...

Hi Bill, i would say that you got a very nice Monnierara there. the colors are solid and the shape of the flowers are just great. Monnierara millenium magic is a cross between catanoches midnight jem and mormodes sinuata. though i do not have any monnierara with me YET, but i would treat it the same as other catasetums. your plants has looses all it's leaves minimal watering now, sometimes i would even with hold watering till i see the bulbs shriveled slightly then i drench them again.
whether or not to remove them from the pot depends on the grower, i usually do not. the only time i would removed them is when i would like to have the media changed. this is especially true for those who are using organic media, especially the sphagnum moss, once there is a media breakdown, i would utilize the dormant period to change the media totally and then repot once you see a new growth.
watering may resume as normal when the new growth is with roots about 2-3 inches long. good luck Bill.
and i got to say, it is all your fault because after looking at these pics, i got another new item in my wishlist.........hahahahaha (better find someone to blame for my ever growing wishlist)............just joking
