Red face Epidendrum Lakeview Yellow Splash

Here is another epidendrum blooming. It had three huge bunches on it. I broke one off and gave to a friend. Here are a few photos of the remaining blooms.

She is not an orchid person, but has a few plastic orchids in her home. I hadn't planned to give her that particular orchid when I went out to the greenhouse on Sunday, but it broke off in my hand. My intention was to give her a cattleya bloom. This one was in bloom, but it looked a bit past its prime.

those lakeview hybrids are very brittle. i have 3, red, 775 (orange) and angel (pink/white/yellow color changer) and i have snapped stems off of them all at one time or another. i keep them at the back corner of the balcony and never move them now, just water them in place very carefully. i even took their saucers away for the winter to avoid having to lift them or move them at all.

Just love that Blc Norman's Bay 'Lucille' - truly one of the greats of the cattleya world. This is indeed a rare treasure, Bruce. Even 'past its prime' it is still breathtakingly gorgeous!!! Thanks for posting. All my Norman's Bays have gone to orchid heaven.
