My friend has a ton of orchids but she does not know what they are, I repotted a vanda(think it is a hybrid) she just had it hanging around so we have to wait for it to flower at probably a very long time away. So she has this lovely flower on an orchid plant that I intend to get one of very soon when I help her to repot plants ----I hate to see plants of any kind being mistreated cause they did not ask to come into our hands at all. I would love to know the name of it if any one should know. thank you Name: 18-05-13_1419a.jpg

It is a Cattleya hybrid, and it will not be possible to positively identify it more specifically than that. Someone may suggest that it looks just like something they have seen, but there are at least dozens of similar hybrids that could look much like this. General care instructions for Cattleya types are easy to find.

Sure, it could be Orange Nuggett (has 2 Ts)... or it could just as easily be Fuch's Orange Nuggett, or Wanda's Fire, or Hawaiian Discovery, or Elizabeth Palmer, or Orange Show, or Viola Nuggett, or Orange Digger, or Gold Fire, or many many others... There's just no way to be sure.

I agree with Paphmadman. This probably does have Gold Nugget in it's blood, but Gold nugget has been used hundreds of times to produce other hybrids. There is no way to be certain. If you enjoy the orchid, then grow it and enjoy it. we all have some without names. BTW. I am not so sure this orchid needs to be re-potted.

They are so right, it is difficult to put a name to a plant without a tag. Maybe you will luck out and find a tag when you repot. Otherwise; make a nice nickname for it. The tag is really not important, other than to learn cultural information for the plant, if you don't plan on showing or crossing them. And that is such a lovely bright flower...

thanks everyone for your thoughts, I do not think my friend wants it repotted but there are other orchids that do need to be done one in particular which I do suspect may very well be a catt is so thick in the basket (seems like about ten or so plants and looks overcrowded) that is one she wants to repot it is not flowering, and then vandas that have gotten so strung out and all over the place, like an unruly head of hair so we will be really go at those to try to get them flowering. Thanks again
