keiki paste

anyone have some experience with keiki paste? i've ordered a little jar of it, and look forward to trying to clone some phals and dorit hybrids. i have one dtps that gave me a keiki naturally, and it will soon be ready to detach and grow, but i want to try to get more of other phals to grow babies. i read somewhere years ago that sometimes it produces more flowers, instead of keikis, which i think is cool too.

i'm wondering if there are suggestions as to use it and produce keikis vs flowers, like use more, use less?

also, i'm wondering if people dab it on several nodes along the flower stem, or just one at a time? would too many keikis harm the plant's strength?

i found an article telling how to cut off the bract to expose the node, and it also mentioned that other types of orchids can be used, like oncidiums. it was saying to find the node on the pbulb and dab it there, but then isn't that just a new growth? not so much a keiki really? has anyone tried that? sounds like it could help speed up the growth of a smaller plant possibly?

recently i 'topped' my mokara, as the bare/ugly stem was over 18" tall before it got to leaves, so i cut it back just above the bottom few leaves, and left it potted up as it was, hoping it will grow keikis. it did this years ago for me, but the last time i tried it, it didn't work, so i'm going to try on that one also to get some new keikis growing.

and lastly, does keiki paste have the potential to harm my plants (or me) in any way? not that i plan on eating the stuff, but it is some sort of weird hormone, so it makes me wonder, in this world of readily available deadly chemicals. i don't want to sprout an extra arm or anything if i spill it on me.

I don't know about keiki paste, but I'm really interested in finding out! I'd love keikis of a couple of my phals. I figure the ones that have p-bulbs can always be divided if they are doing well. We share Oncidiums (and family) and Cattleyas around in my family of orchid lovers. Myself, my daughter and my daughter in law all are orchid hobbyists.

I have not used keiki paste but a friend who has used it on old phalaenopsis spikes has reported that he got a few keikis from these old spikes when he applied the paste on the nodes of the spikes. No reports of any harm to plants or humans.

I use on my Phals as you can see 4keikies are coming up.just cut of the skin that cover the node,open it and you will see the small node inside.use cotton bud with the paste.[/URL]

got mine...!!! you don't seem to need much, and you can buy little jars for cheap, that has plenty of the past to try several times i think. 5 grams isn't much, but more than enough. and we're talking under 10$ including postage. kind of cheap for a magic paste that grows orchids.

wow! that's cool kitty! they all grew!? are you going to do the others? i've got i think 3 currently with stems that have dropped their flowers. might do them all, one or two nodes each.

haha,you know me .i put in another plants as well and yeh try only one or two each plant.mine was too much and i still keep my eyes on the plant.so far so good they all in a good shape.i'm waiting the root to show up but still nothing.

I do not have kiki paste but I am trying some rooting powder on the little node of a phal that had the last flower a few weeks ago, I noticed that the flower spike has not gotten brown nor shriveled up and the nodes look a bit plump cause I put the powder on about three nodes, so I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed to see what I can get from it, here is a pic of that one with the spike this orchid is so beautiful when in flower I hope I can get some more like this one [ATTACH=CONFIG]65322[/ATTACH
