Default Orchid Root Problems, cut the flower spikes or not?

I was recently given a Phalaenopsis bought from a supermarket, it is in bloom but since most of these purchased at these stores are not properly taken care of I decided to inspect the roots. As I suspected all of the roots are bad with the exception of 1 that is 2" long above the potting material and 1 that is questionable about .5" long under the plant. I have repotted in bark mix in a tiny clay pot.

The question I have is, should I be cutting off the flower spikes at the base to conserve energy? The blooms look like they may be getting ready to wilt anyway, I really want to save this plant, the leaves are all relatively healthy looking, 1 was yellow which I removed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

If the roots are damaged, repot in a fresh medium, cut off the spike, and keep in a humid environment with good air movement. You could also use root hormone to stimulate root growth.

    Default recent transplant 1 root

Thanks for getting back to me, I have removed the dead roots and the 2 spikes. There is basically 1 root left and it is above the base of the plant. What is the proper method of getting water to the plant ( see pic ).
I am leaving on vacation for a week so misting will not be possible. I did apply a rooting hormone to the base.

The photo did not come through. I include a video for reference on repotting including air roots.
