Default My New 10 gal Orchidarium

I have broken down and made my 10 gallon fish tank a orchidarium (I borrowed the word 'orchidarium' from a joyce184 post).

This is a first crack at it and I have 4 plants in the orchidarium at present.
1- a mounted piece of epidendrum magnoliae 'green fly'
2- 2' pot of epidendrum magnoliae 'green fly'
    3- 2' pot with a paph
    4- a mounted encyclia megalantha

A couple rocks and a little hanging system for the mounted. Gravel from the aquarium days and a full spectrum daylight flourescent tube. I'll need to get a little fan. Anyone have any recommendations for it?
What else should be added to enrich the environment?

Recommendation for a little fan? Just get used computer fan from a computer repair place or, if you know of a place that serves as a drop off for computer recycling/disposal, open up a pc case and remove the fans. Computer expos often have fans as well -- both used and new.

For a power supply, I suggest getting a variable AC/DC adapter. The fan will require DC current -- AC will fry it. Getting a variable adapter will give you some control over how fast the fan spins.

you can use the same power supply for a computer to run the fan. an old used one from win98-xp days would be perfect. just mount the power supply outside the tank somehow where it is not too humid (where you think a normal computer would be safe). the newer ones run a ton of current, so look for a lower powered one. you can power multiple fans. just make sure the fans have the correct connection, as some have a 4-prong plug about an inch or so wide that goes directly into the power supply (or into an accessory cord anyway) and others plug into the motherboard with much different tiny little plugs. you can even get cool ones that light up and stuff.

Maybe live moss looks more cheerful with green background.

I have a temp of 78F and 86% humidity in the orchidarium. No fan yet.

I have 7 plants in it at the present. I'll leave them there and see how they do. Now I hope I have enough light over it.

How about placing a mounted orchid that is a real climber? The leaves go all over the place and the flowers are quite beautiful. It's called Tetramicra canaliculata and it's a small plant that has vey interesting foilage and habits besides . Message me if you want to know where to find it and see photos or Google it. AL

Here is the current view of the orchidarium. It is getting stuffed already. Fortunately, the paph ready to bloom will come out when it opens.

Probably will need more light to keep everything happy in that Orchidarium.

    cheers,
