What do you make of this? The leaf is yellow with a black area. There is also a green leaf with the same black spots.

Received this orchid a month ago from GWOS. Don't know how old leaf is.
if it is isolated one leaf, would possibly cut it with a sterile knife and leave it.
Looks like ageing. Black spots on the leaves are common in the Oncidinae family when they are exposed to high light levels.
This orchid was in a western exposure. It is over humidity tray and has an oscillating fan. Do you think
it is getting too much light?
with previous. Most likely just an older leaf, since just one has turned yellow thus far. Were the black spots there when you received it a month ago?
In my experience, a western-facing exposure can lead to sunburn spots, but several leaves would be impacted and they tend to turn yellow-green or take on a reddish cast and get a burn spot - esp. the ones that are facing the window/sun. You've got the oscillating fan so you probably have good ventilation which helps to lower the leaf temperature. The spot appears lower down on the leaf (not high up where it could be indicating too much light) and the rest of your leaves appear okay. Maybe it was done prior to you obtaining it, I've had that happen. Do you have a max/min thermometer to measure temp in your growing area? If not, I'd suggest investing in one - its really helped me a lot! Plus you can usually find one that also has a humidity level indication. Now I don't know what I did without one.
