should I Repot new Cattleya?

I recently acquired a small Cat plant, planted in bark. The plant has a number of leaves, longest about 5 inches long. It is in a tiny 2.5" square pot. Should/when should I repot it? It seems quite healthy.

Hi Shelley. Your post presents many variables. Something that happens frequently is that a professional grower in a greenhouse may do very well with this plant the way it is but if you are growing in a drastically different environment things may not go quite so well. I don't know your experience and wonder if you are familiar with growing Cattleyas. It can be quite a challenge to grow and flower them indoors. I don't mean to sound negative. We have members here who do just that and flower them extremely well! As Carol said, it would be good if you could post a couple pictures including one that shows how the plant is fitting in the pot. There is a wide variety of materials that people use to fit their growing style. As you become more familiar with what works for you, you will find that most things you get will be repotted shortly after you get them. Try to determine if your plant retains enough moisture without staying too wet. If it does, then things should be good. Best of luck and look forward to seeing how things progress!

Sorry for the delayed reply, I appreciate your responses. I knew I was taking a chance with this plant, but I thought I'd try, as orchids continue to be a learning experience for me! I am attaching a photo; I think that the plant probably needs repotting, just not sure what size pot to use, but welcome opinions!

It looks like the size of the pot is fine. If you are comfortable with the media you can keep it in there until the next growth is about 3" tall. Maybe a 4" pot will work then. If your other plants are in larger pots you might find that this one will need watered a bit more often. Keep an eye on it and keep us posted!

Agree with Wade. The size of the pot looks fine. allow it to grow more pseudo bulbs and then you could repot.
