Hello Guys, sharing the blooms of my Renanthera Storiei which i bought in the orchid show two years ago. I posted photos of this way back when i acquired it and got some discouraging words from a fellow Filipino. He said that my plant would just die in months and called me amateur and other not-so-pleasant remarks.. I guess this plant wants to prove him wrong. This is for Wally Suarez.

Congrats on beating the odds!
thanks Harvey
Beautiful renanthera! How do you grow it?
hi Dale, i grow it in a big clay pot (the size is like a 4 gallon bucket) and just place it on the ground. i use fern slabs and some coconut chips as medium. i feed it weekly and water it twice a day since it dries out quickly. place it in a bright spot. it loves the sun so much
I have a Red Dragon that I purchased a year ago. I live in So. California where it's terribly dry. I was told by the grower to put it in direct sun. It is grown bareroot like my other vandas. I water it daily or even more often when needed. It's growing but also getting thrashed by the sun. Today I added coarse bark to the basket. What do you think?
Great job! I almost picked one of these up at a show last spring. Every photo I see of them makes me regret not doing so.

Well, actually, my plant is still under a shade cloth but it gets up to 7 hours of light. I once put it under direct sunlight and it's leaves were damaged. i think you should provide it some shade especially during noon. it needs light like strap leaf vandas. these plants grow roots only when its surrounding is humid. coarse medium may dry out quickly. what i do (which may sound weird and funny) is i fill 2 pairs of socks with sphagnum moss just so it retains moisture longer. then place it about 2 inches around the plant together with fern slabs and come coco nut chips. i will post how my pot looks like when i get home. i took me so long to get this trick right.

go get one jason, i think this plant will love your place since you have hot days and cool nights. it will flower very frequently if it meets these two conditions. here in my place, we only get cool nights (22 degrees celsius) from January to February..please post when you get one
