Default Do you think my Vanda is blooming size?

    Hi y'all,

I've had this guy for about three years now and it's grown quite a bit! I was wondering, in your expert opinions, if this Vanda looks blooming sized yet? It's never bloomed before. I don't have much personal experience with Vandas myself. Take a look if you have time

Congrats on a very healthy plant. If it has Ascocentrum in its ancestry then it is blooming size. One reason I'm reluctant to accept the change from Ascocentrum to Vanda is that Ascos tend to pass on 'dwarfism' and early maturity to its offsprings and this helps growers to identify which 'vandas' are likely to be dwarfs and which are going to be giants. Of course this is not going to be a 100% foolproof method, but every little thing helps in our fascinating hobby. Good luck with your vanda.

Thank you! I'm not sure if it has Asco or not in it. All I know is I'm getting bored with it after three years. I do admit I neglected the hell out of it for a year to where it was essentially nothing but a shriveled clump of leaves with dried roots...after a month of watering all the leaves perked up and are turgid and "snappable" as if they were brand new (I've never seen such a comeback). I can't give up on it after it being such a warrior.

Concur with Yew Sung. It would require quite high light for it to initiate blooms. The vanda per say is near blooming size. how much sun and fertilization does it get?

It gets full sun from 7am-12pm, shady conditions (outside) the rest of the day. Fertilized once a week, watered every day.

Fed "once a week" tells us very little.

What formula, and at what concentration?

11-35-15, and 20-14-13 (I switch off). Half strength. Directions say one teaspoon per gallon, I do half a teaspoon per gallon.
