Need some Help Please!

I just inherited an orchid from my aunt. She has had it for several years hanging on a tree in her front yard. I believe it is an Easter Orchid, but can't seem to find out which type it is. I think it looks like the "mossiae" type. Can someone give me an idea on how to find out exactly what type it is? And how I should care for it. Thanks! I am new to this site and would appreciate any help. Thanks again!

Hi Phyllis, and welcome to the forum!

If you could post a picture of your inheritance, it will help us identify it and suggest the best care. Orchids fall into different genera. Each genus likes certain things best as a group (typically), but there's a quite a bit of difference between them.

Welcome! Let us know where you live, too so we can understand the climate conditions. If it was growing hanging from a tree you must be in a pretty warm climate...

I live in St. Petersburg, Florida. The orchid was hanging from a tree in which I put into in my back yard today. Gets early morning sun, shade in the afternoon. Thanks for your help

Okay - outdoor all year, morning sun, if it is in a basket it will dry out quickly so make sure to water it when it gets dry. Watch as the seasons change and the sun position changes that it does not get too much sun.

Sounds like your plant could be Cattleya mossiae. However, could you please post a picture of your plant? That would make the ID easier and more accurate.
