    Default Odontoglossum Prob

Very new here to the forum and hope I am not committing a faux pas. Since there is no Odontoglossum thread, at least to my knowledge....I will post my question here, in a new thread I have an Odonto which has produced 2 new bulbs this spring because I stupidly applied too much fertilizer and blew out the young flower spike (Duhhh!!). Very frustrating, however, 2 new growths could also be a good thing for flower production next year. My question....the new leaves produced by each of the new psedo bulbs are wrinkled like an accordion and are not lengthening ie reaching for the sun and smoothing out like they should. Any suggestions? They are under a south facing skylight shaded by sheers. I have had this plant for 5 years and have bloomed it every season since.

New growths that have pleated leaves generally indicates a moisture problem. Either your humidity is too low for their liking or the plant isn't taking up enough moisture through its roots. If the plant has a good root system, water more frequently. If you water too frequently the roots could have rotted causing the same problem...how is the media? Either way, increase humidity.

Thanks for the quick reply CD. My regimen for all my orchids is water once a week every Sunday, no more, no less . I use straight tap water to wash out the media then apply a second watering of low strength fertilizer. On this one, I will take your advice, return it to my bathroom where it gets showered everyday and try watering twice a week. I had moved the plant to my bedroom under the sheered sky light thinking that extra light (south) would stretch the leaves and remove the wrinkles. Perhaps it needs more water because the plant is trying to produce 2 pseudo bulbs during this growing season. I will take a couple of pics for my next post. I have not transplanted since purchase. There is enough room left for this years growth. I will take a closer look at the root system.

I believe you said you have had it for 5 years. If you have not repotted, the bark may be broken down and needs to be replaced. I hope you find out what the problem is!

If its been happy and blooming in the bathroom, by all means take it back. It probably likes the humidity there. Do check the roots if you haven't repotted for 5 years, as mentioned, your media may be breaking down. If you have new growth and new roots coming, its a good time to repot (If needed, of course!).

I agree with the above...If the medium is over 5 years old, there may be a root problem. I would repot

A last question which actually does relate to this post. I took some pics of this odonto today and wanted to post them. I knew enough to click on the image icon and figured I would down load the images from photo bucket but was told my images were too big, obviously I am not keen on this..... re sizing everything. Is there a picture posting tutorial for this forum? I did look for some guidance here but did not see any. Help would be much appreciated as one pic is of course worth a thousand......

There is a photo resizing feature here in the forum: Resize Photos Online
Also on the home page there is a drop down menu called HELP that give quick links to many helpful features on the site. Check out attaching photos.

    cheers,
