Default Is my Orchid still healthy? Moist white roots, white spots...

I've had my orchid a little over a year. I've always watered it with hard water, but I recently moved in June and we have soft water so I've been using that instead. It seemed to affect it a little, it was flowering when we moved but the flowers slowly died off. I figured it was still adjusting to the new water. I just pulled it out of the pot today to have a look and I was surprised to find that most of the roots were bright white, but moist. The green parts of the roots had white spots on them. Does anyone know what could be going on? Should I go back to using hard water? Is it normal?

    Here are some pictures:

Usually the roots are green, or hard and dry and white. I've never seen them moist and ghostly.

soft water would mean a hard water passed through a softener?. some of the water softeners are based on sodium and sodium softeners are not good for orchids. picture would be helpful to ascertain what those white spots are.
